Belly Binding

Traditional practice to support postpartum birthing parents.

  • Belly binding is most useful when done short after birth, and can have positive effects for up to two weeks postpartum. Binding has been shown to improve digestion, aid in uterine involution, prevent diastasis recti, assist in regaining bladder control, keeps warmth in the womb, provides a sense of security, allows fascia and ligaments to rest, relieves pelvic joint pain, supports uterine and abdominal integrity, minimizes pain from cramping, and stabilizes intra-abdominal and chest cavity pressure.

  • Session includes light touch and palpation with massage oil to determine uterine positioning and bone/muscle placement, belly binding with a stretchy venda (not to be confused with Bengkung binding) to wrap your belly, and educational support to learn the techniques yourself. Sessions are typically one hour.

  • $150 in-home or in-hospital binding,$65 additional sessions ($100 and $45 for birth/postpartum clients)
